WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMPattaya’s 3D sign draws crowds, but city needs more than lights3D LED sign lights up Walking Street — selfie spot in the making as installation nears completion. PATTAYA, Thailand — A new 3D LED sign is being installed at the entrance of Walking Street, part of the city’s ongoing beautification efforts. While the structure is not yet complete, the colorful signage has already started attracting onlookers and photographers excited about Pattaya’s modern new look. The sign, featuring vivid graphics and dynamic lighting, is designed to become a selfie hotspot and a bold new symbol for the city’s most famous nightlife strip. “Get your cameras ready,” city officials teased online, as the construction progresses into its final stages. Temporary inconveniences due to ongoing installation have been acknowledged, and residents are asked for patience during this phase. But while the flashy display is getting attention, locals are raising other pressing concerns. One recurring issue is the chronic traffic congestion caused by unregulated parking at the curve near Walking Street’s entrance. “Can we also fix the problem with the parked songthaews, taxis, and app-based cars? It gets so jammed there,” one commenter wrote. Others welcomed the upgrade but added that urban improvements shouldn’t stop at aesthetics. “Pattaya is getting better all the time,” one person noted, “but we still need real changes — not just signs.” Many are calling for more walkable sidewalks, safer pedestrian crossings, and better traffic flow to match the city’s evolving image. As Pattaya evolves into a more tourist-friendly destination, residents hope city planners will match digital sparkle with practical reform, ensuring that the city’s iconic streets are not only photogenic but also functional and accessible. Progress at a price: Pattaya asks for patience as Walking Street sign construction continues. Locals call for parking reform near the Walking Street curve — “Signs are great, but fix the jams too!” Beyond the glow — Pattaya’s new sign sparks pride and points to bigger city planning needs. New direction for Walking Street? 3D signage adds dazzle, but residents want real progress beneath the surface.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 56 Просмотры

WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMForeign tourists remain split on where to retire, but agree: ‘Thailand is more than just Pattaya’Not Sleazy Enough? Vietnam’s charm divides opinions — while retirees remind us: “Thailand is bigger than just Pattaya”. (Photo by Jetsada Homklin) PATTAYA, Thailand – With Southeast Asia fully reopened to travel and retirement visas once again in high demand, many long-term foreign visitors find themselves torn between two perennial favorites: Pattaya and Vietnam. While both destinations offer beaches, nightlife, and affordable living, the debate over which country truly delivers the best experience continues to stir passionate discussion — especially among retirees and digital nomads. “I’ve lived in the Philippines, Cambodia, and of course Thailand,” one European retiree commented. “After a few years back in Europe, I’m now retired in Thailand — which, thankfully, is bigger than just Pattaya.” Another commenter was more direct, addressing the appeal of Vietnam with a hint of sarcasm: “Surprised? Not sleazy enough for you? Vietnam is incredible! Maybe the girls weren’t as nice to you because they weren’t desperate for your money, so you felt rejected.” That said, not everyone who tries Vietnam ends up staying there. A recurring sentiment among some returnees is that the grass isn’t always greener. As one regular put it: “‘I tried Vietnam, came back to Pattaya’ — some find out the hard way that cheaper doesn’t mean better.” Still, Thailand isn’t without its drawbacks. Uncertain tax and visa regulations, the persistent strength of the baht, and widespread dual pricing continue to frustrate long-term visitors. These factors have pushed Thailand further down the list for some who feel the country is becoming less welcoming — even as its appeal remains strong for those who value its lifestyle, infrastructure, and sense of community. Even though both spots are competitive, in the end, it’s the destination that offers more comfort, warmer smiles, and—most of all—the most familiar taste of food that tends to win the hearts of retirees. Beyond Pattaya and Vietnam, other developed Thai cities with solid infrastructure and convenient airports are also gaining attention from long-term visitors. Places like Chiang Mai in the north, Udon Thani and Khon Kaen in the northeast, Rayong along the eastern seaboard, or down south in Krabi, Trang, and Phang Nga offer attractive options. These cities often provide friendlier living costs and a more relaxed lifestyle, appealing to those seeking long stays away from the busier beach hubs. With rising costs, shifting policies, and evolving expectations, the Pattaya vs. Vietnam debate isn’t going away anytime soon. But for now, it seems many still find themselves drawn back to the familiarity, comfort, and contradictions that Pattaya uniquely offers.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 66 Просмотры

THETHAIGER.COMPattaya’s Jomtien Beach gets sandy makeover to woo touristsPattaya’s Jomtien Beach gets sandy makeover to woo touristsLegacyThailand’s Marine Department held a high-level seminar yesterday at the Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel and Resort to push forward Phase 2 of the Jomtien Beach Sand Replenishment Project — a multimillion-baht effort to combat coastal erosion and bring back beachgoers in droves. Deputy Director-General of the Marine Department Narinsak Sattaprasit presided over the event. He was joined by Deputy Governor of Chon Buri province Adirek Unosot, Pattaya Deputy Mayor Krisana Boonsawad, and Rapeepan Rattanliam, representing the Na Jomtien subdistrict mayor. Key stakeholders also included local council members, beach umbrella operators, and both public and private sector representatives. The seminar wasn’t just a publicity stunt — it was an information-sharing session aimed at gathering feedback from the community before the next stage of construction begins. “The second phase of this project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainable coastal development,” Narinsak said. Pictures courtesy of The Pattaya News The first phase saw the successful restoration of 3,575 metres of beach across Na Jomtien and South Jomtien. Now, Phase 2 will add another 2,840 metres of new beachfront, extending from the Chaiyapreuk Intersection to near the Dongtan Beach Police Box. The Marine Department says the project will help shield the coast from natural disasters, improve the beachfront experience for locals and tourists, and support the fragile marine environment. The work had initially been delayed due to ongoing road and drainage infrastructure upgrades along Jomtien Beach Road — essential groundwork to support the upcoming sand expansion, The Pattaya News reports. While a final construction date has yet to be confirmed, local businesses and tourism operators are eager for the project to begin, seeing it as a vital move to revive Pattaya’s struggling post-pandemic economy. “The beach is everything to Pattaya,” said one local vendor. “If the beach goes, so do the tourists.” With this ambitious plan now back on track, Pattaya could soon be flaunting a broader, stronger, and more Instagrammable coastline — just in time to lure tourists back to its sun-soaked shores.
