Pattaya hosts marine life release activity at Jomtien Beach to promote sustainability and seafood conservation
Deputy Mayor Krissana joins hands with fishery officials and tourists at Jomtien Beach to preserve marine life and protect coral reef habitats. PATTAYA, Thailand – Deputy Mayor Krissana Boonsawat presided over a marine animal release event organized in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, the Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center in Rayong, and the Jomtien Beach local fishing community. The activity was held at the local fishing group area on Jomtien Beach and featured the release of 100,000 juvenile whiteleg shrimp and 1,000 spotted babylon sea snails into the sea. Krissana explained that the event reflects a cooperative effort between Pattaya City, the Department of Fisheries, and the local fishing group to conserve and increase the marine animal population. He emphasized the significance of preserving marine species — especially the spotted babylon, which is more difficult to breed compared to other aquatic species due to multiple environmental factors such as seawater salinity, cleanliness, and the risk of plankton bloom events. These conditions can affect the growth and survival rate of the species. To ensure proper release, the small fishing boats of the Jomtien fishing group transported the marine species out to coral reef zones offshore, where they were gently introduced into their new environment. Krissana also highlighted that, beyond being a tourist destination, Pattaya is renowned for its seafood. Therefore, marine nursery and conservation efforts are crucial to maintaining the balance and abundance of marine resources, supporting sustainable tourism, and preserving the coastal ecosystem. Pattaya officials and local fishers release 100,000 shrimp and 1,000 sea snails into the sea — boosting marine conservation for future seafood sustainability. Spotted babylon sea snails — difficult to breed and sensitive to water quality — were released to help maintain ecological balance and seafood diversity.   “It’s not just about tourism — it’s about marine sustainability,” said Pattaya’s deputy mayor, urging long-term stewardship of the city’s coastal resources.
