PATTAYA, Thailand — A violent early morning crash at a busy intersection in Pattaya left six people injured after a black pickup truck driven by an intoxicated woman ran a red light and collided with an SUV, causing it to flip over. The incident occurred at 4:06 a.m. on June 17, at the Nong Phong traffic light intersection on Jomtien Second Road. Rescue personnel responded after receiving an emergency call and coordinated with Pol. Capt. Pakorn Prakobnun, Deputy Investigation Officer at Pattaya Police Station (Dongtan Branch). Rescue units and police rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a bronze Mitsubishi Pajero SUV flipped upside down with its wheels in the air after rolling over from the force of the impact. Inside the wreckage were six injured victims: Mr. Watcharapong, the 51-year-old Thai male driver; one male Korean tourist; and four Thai women. Rescuers immediately extracted the victims from the overturned vehicle, administered first aid on site, and transported them to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The other vehicle involved was a black Toyota Vigo pickup truck, which had major front-end damage but had fled the scene. However, the truck’s front bumper and license plate were left behind at the crash site. Police and good Samaritans were able to track the fleeing vehicle to a nearby hotel, approximately 500 meters from the scene. The driver was identified as Ms. Thanchanok, a 23-year-old Thai woman, found to be heavily intoxicated. Eyewitnesses corroborated Mr. Watcharapong’s account, confirming that the SUV was heading toward the beach, while the pickup truck ran a red light and fled the scene immediately after the collision. Pakorn administered blood alcohol tests to both drivers. Ms. Thanchanok, the pickup driver, registered a blood alcohol concentration of 130 mg%, significantly above Thailand’s legal limit. Authorities recovered CCTV footage from the intersection, which clearly captured the moment of impact. The footage will be submitted as evidence to ensure a fair legal process.
