The Thai Meteorological Department reported on June 10 that this depression has intensified, boosting the southwest monsoon winds and causing widespread rainfall from June 10 to 12. Residents and visitors in Pattaya and surrounding areas should prepare for increased downpours and localized flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones. Authorities strongly advise against driving through roads submerged in deep rainwater, particularly low roads that are vulnerable to sudden flooding, to avoid accidents and vehicle damage. Meteorologist Somkuan Tonjan explained that while the tropical depression is moving toward Hainan Island in southern China and will not directly hit Thailand, it will strengthen the monsoon over the region. This means more intense rains for many parts of Thailand, including the eastern region where Pattaya is located. The forecast warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several provinces, with increased risk of flash floods, runoff, and landslides. Coastal waters in the Andaman Sea will also experience strong winds and rough seas, prompting a warning for small boats to remain ashore during this period. The heavy rain threat is expected to ease after June 12, with rain decreasing from June 13 onward, especially in northern and southern areas, due to an approaching high-pressure system from the southern hemisphere. Meanwhile, officials remind the public to beware of misinformation spreading on social media during such volatile weather and to rely only on trusted sources like the Meteorological Department for updates.
