The drama unfolded around sunset on Monday, May 5, in Soi Nern Plub Wan, when officers from Nong Prue Police Station attempted to stop a modified motorbike drawing attention with its blaring exhaust and missing licence plate.
The officers, identified as Sergeant Thanakorn Chanakijpitakkul and Senior Sgt. Buranin Phonimitsakul were in hot pursuit when disaster struck. While tailing the rogue rider, their vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming civilian motorcycle.
The crash left both officers and the civilian seriously injured. All three were quickly rushed to Pattaya Pattamakun Hospital for emergency treatment.
Colonel Natthaphon Phongsuksakul, superintendent of Nong Prue Police Station, visited the injured men at the hospital and provided initial financial support to the wounded officers, praising their dedication to public safety.
“This is a reminder of the risks our officers face every day to keep our roads safe. We will continue to crack down on illegal street racing and modified vehicles that endanger lives.”
The incident has reignited debate over illegally modified motorcycles in Pattaya and beyond. Residents frequently complain about noisy exhausts and reckless riding, particularly in tourist-heavy areas and residential neighbourhoods.
Local police vowed to step up enforcement, with renewed focus on unlicensed vehicles and high-risk chases that often turn into public safety hazards.
The suspect remains at large, and police are reviewing CCTV footage in hopes of tracking him down, reported The Pattaya News.
As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a reminder of how a single reckless rider can cause chaos and injury in a matter of seconds.
