Sunny Pattaya gets brief showers, Northern Thailand faces storms
Pattaya stays mostly dry and breezy — light rain fails to dampen sunshine as temperatures hold steady at 28–33°C, though waves and winds remain significant along the shore. (Photo by Jetsada Homklin) PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya experienced light rain under cloudy skies on Wednesday (July 30), but the sun managed to shine through for most of the day, offering residents and visitors a warm, if slightly damp, start to the week. Temperatures in Pattaya ranged from 28–33°C, making for a humid but tolerable day for beachgoers and tourists alike. Forecasters expect drier conditions for the rest of the week, with sunny intervals likely to return and only a slight chance of isolated showers. Meanwhile, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a more serious weather advisory for other regions. Upper parts of the North and Northeast, as well as the Central and Eastern regions, are expected to see heavy rainfall in some areas, with particular caution urged for residents in Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom. People in those areas are advised to watch for possible flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows—especially in low-lying and mountainous areas. The weather disturbances are attributed to a low-pressure cell over northern Vietnam, coupled with a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Marine conditions remain unstable, with waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf reaching up to 2 meters. Areas experiencing thunderstorms could see even higher waves. The Meteorological Department advises small boats to exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas. In Bangkok and surrounding provinces, there’s a 70% chance of thunderstorms today, with temperatures ranging from 26–27°C in the early morning to highs of 33–35°C during the day.
