Pattaya tourists set to enjoy new Jomtien beach walk as project nears completion
Nearly Complete – Jomtien’s new beach promenade is 90% finished, featuring improved drainage, enhanced beachfront scenery, and 700 new parking spots to ease visits and boost tourism. PATTAYA, Thailand – Tourists visiting Jomtien Beach are about to enjoy a major upgrade as Pattaya City officials confirm that the massive beachfront landscape improvement project is now over 90% complete. The long-running initiative, which began last year, stretches from Dongtan Beach to Chaiyapruek Intersection and is set to be completed by October 10, according to Deputy Pattaya Mayor Manot Nongyai. The key focus of the project is to solve chronic flooding in the area by installing a 1.8-meter drainage pipe system beneath the road running alongside the beach. That component is now finished and expected to greatly improve stormwater drainage. Remaining tasks include finalizing a 700-car parking area and paving the pedestrian footpaths. Although construction has caused some inconvenience—particularly during heavy rains when incomplete sections led to temporary flooding—officials say contractors have now installed interim rainwater drainage in key segments to minimize disruption and protect the beach’s reinforced sandbanks. Once completed, the redesigned beachfront will include expanded parking spaces along the entire stretch, aimed at better serving tourists and locals. During construction, the city had implemented a one-way traffic system, but this will revert to the original two-way traffic once the project is finished. The entire upgraded stretch spans approximately 5 kilometers. Pattaya City is also eyeing further expansion, with plans to extend the road and improve access from the Chaiyapruek junction to Na Jomtien Municipality. However, the next phase still awaits budget approval from the Marine Department. If approved, a 2-kilometer extension would be managed with support from the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization and coordinated with Na Jomtien. City officials are optimistic that the completed project will offer a more attractive, flood-resistant, and accessible Jomtien Beach experience for both locals and international visitors alike.
