Heavy rains across Thailand, but Pattaya promises sunshine returns — keep your swimsuit ready
The skies may rumble, but in Pattaya, the sunshine always fights its way back. (Photo by Jetsada Homklin) PATTAYA, Thailand – While much of Thailand braces for more heavy rain this week, travelers heading to Pattaya shouldn’t be too quick to cancel their plans. The Meteorological Department has issued fresh warnings for flash floods and runoff in parts of the North, Northeast, East, and South, but the eastern seaboard’s tourism magnet — Pattaya — remains largely clear and welcoming. The current weather pattern, influenced by a low-pressure system hovering over northern Myanmar and Laos, coupled with moderate southwesterly monsoon winds, is bringing isolated heavy rainfall across the country. However, Pattaya’s coastal zone is seeing shorter bursts of rain with extended sunny breaks, especially during the afternoons — and local businesses say the golden skies are still very much in season. “Don’t pull back yet,” said a long-time beachfront vendor on Jomtien. “The sun always returns here — and quickly. In Pattaya, sunshine is a promise.” Elsewhere, the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are experiencing moderate waves, with heights reaching 2 meters, especially in stormy zones. Small boat operators have been advised to navigate with caution and avoid going out during thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm “Danas”, currently in the upper South China Sea and moving toward Taiwan, will not directly impact Thailand. But it’s expected to intensify southwest monsoon winds slightly, bringing in more moisture to some regions over the next few days. Still, Pattaya tourism continues to shine, with hotel bookings holding steady and water activities running as usual — with just a watchful eye on the sky. Tour operators are advising tourists to check weather updates, but not to worry excessively: “The clouds don’t stay long here,” one diving instructor noted. “By the time you finish your coffee, the sun is usually back.” So whether you’re coming for beach lounging, street food, or nightlife — pack an umbrella, but don’t unpack your swimsuits just yet. Pattaya still promises warmth, light, and that unmistakable charm that no storm cloud can dim.
