Koh Kood sees over 40% tourism growth for second year, despite monsoon season challenges
Koh Kood tourism surges again—operators report over 40% growth for the second year running.
PATTAYA, Thailand – Koh Kood in Trat province continues to shine as a rising star of Thai ecotourism, with operators reporting over 40% growth in visitor numbers for two consecutive years, even during the rainy low season. Ms. Piyaporn Ampai, owner of Sea Far Resort, noted that 2025 has brought strong momentum since New Year, Chinese New Year, and Songkran, with all 1,200+ rooms on the island fully booked during long weekends. End-of-year bookings for late 2025 are already sold out.
Despite the rainy season from June to October—typically considered a tourism low point—Koh Kood still attracts nature lovers. The island boasts lush forests, cool weather, and full-flowing waterfalls, particularly the historic Khlong Chao Waterfall, once visited by King Rama V.
However, safety remains a top concern. Rough seas and strong monsoon waves have prompted operators to post red flags at all beaches. Ms. Ampai warned against swimming, citing risks from strong currents and past drownings. Koh Kood District Chief Pairat Sroisaeng echoed the caution, urging tourists to refrain from swimming during this period, despite some foreign visitors being spotted in shallow waters under staff supervision.
Improved ferry services have also made the island more accessible, boosting its popularity with both domestic and international tourists. Affordable room rates and fresh seafood are further drawing visitors, even in the off-season.
Monsoon warnings issued—red flags up across beaches as waves batter the shoreline.
