Storm batters Pattaya, causes flooding and road damage — urgent repairs underway
Pattaya reeling from heavy rains as flash floods damage key roads across the city. PATTAYA, Thailand – A powerful storm swept through Pattaya for the last few days, bringing heavy rains and flash flooding that damaged several key roads, disrupted traffic, and raised concerns among residents and commuters. The hardest-hit areas include South Pattaya, where water overflowed onto the streets, severely damaging road surfaces and causing deep potholes and erosion. One of the most affected zones is the road along the railway behind Wat Thammasamakkee in South Pattaya. The downpour caused runoff to erode the pavement, rendering parts of the route unsafe for travel. Commuters reported stalled vehicles and bottlenecks during peak hours, prompting swift response from local authorities. The Construction and Maintenance Division of Pattaya City’s Engineering Office has mobilized repair crews to restore the damaged surfaces and ensure the road is safe for public use. Emergency repairs are currently underway, with workers racing against time to patch potholes, fill eroded sections, and stabilize the road shoulder. Repair crews deployed along railway road near Wat Thammasamakkee to fix flood-eroded surface. “Restoring traffic flow is our top priority,” a city engineer on-site told reporters. “The floodwaters caused significant surface damage, but we are working around the clock to make the route passable again.” The city has urged residents to steer clear of heavily affected areas and adhere to detour signs while repairs are underway. With more rain forecast in the coming days, authorities remain on high alert for further flooding and potential infrastructure damage. Pattaya City officials are also encouraging the public to report any flooding, road damage, or storm-related hazards via the City Hotline 1337, available 24/7. The hotline enables quick communication with municipal departments, helping speed up emergency responses and repair efforts. Officials stressed the importance of public cooperation in identifying problem areas to support timely restoration and ensure community safety. City workers rush to restore traffic access in South Pattaya after stormwater tears up asphalt.   Authorities warn of further rain as Pattaya races to fix damaged roads before the next downpour.
