PATTAYA, Thailand – Effective June 28, the Ministry of Labor has raised unemployment compensation for workers who have been laid off. According to a new regulation published in the Royal Gazette and proposed by the Social Security Office (SSO), eligible laid-off workers will receive 60% of their daily wage, increased from the previous 50%.
The maximum monthly benefit has increased from 7,500 baht to 9,000 baht, with support available for up to 180 days (6 months) per calendar year. The total compensation over six months can now reach 54,000 baht, up from the previous limit of 45,000 baht.
This change applies specifically to those who have been terminated from their jobs. Other categories of unemployment benefits under the Social Security system remain unchanged.
The new regulation applies nationwide, including Pattaya, and aims to provide stronger financial assistance for insured workers during periods of unemployment.
Despite economic uncertainties, Pattaya continues to attract job seekers as Europeans and other international visitors return to the popular resort town. With a growing number of tourists taking advantage of attractive offers on accommodations, dining, and entertainment, the local economy is showing signs of recovery. This steady influx of visitors is helping sustain employment opportunities in hospitality, retail, and services, giving Pattaya a strong chance to weather the upcoming winter season.
The Ministry of Labor and SSO will soon issue updated guidelines to assist employers and employees with calculating benefits and completing applications under the new terms.
