WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMPattaya clears long-encroached public land in Soi Photisan 6 as deadline hits for new traffic relief routeDeputy Mayor Manot pledges continued support for residents relocating from public areas. PATTAYA, Thailand — Pattaya City officials, led by Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai and Assistant Secretary to the Mayor Chookiat Nongyai, conducted an on-site inspection on Wednesday to follow up on efforts to reclaim public land in Soi Photisan 6 that had been encroached upon by private residents for decades. The area, designated as public land, had been occupied by several structures used as residences and small businesses since as far back as 1979. The encroachment sparked repeated complaints from residents and led to years of negotiation. Speaking to the press, Deputy Mayor Manot stated that most residents occupying the public space had already agreed to move out and their dwellings had been demolished. However, two remaining structures—one a home, the other a small shop—had yet to be vacated. The owners had previously promised to leave once construction plans for the new road were finalized. “Today marks the final deadline for moving out. The elderly couple living in the shop has honored their commitment and nearly completed their relocation,” Manot said. “We thank them for cooperating, and we’ve even provided them with personal financial support to help cover moving costs.” Pattaya officials reclaim public land in Soi Photisan 6 after decades of encroachment by residents. City officials will now proceed with removing the two remaining house registrations from the area and cancel the house numbers, legally clearing the way for development. Pattaya plans to build a connector road through the reclaimed area to ease traffic from Pattaya Third Road at the Photisan intersection toward Naklua. The proposed road will be approximately 6 to 8 meters wide and will help relieve congestion in the Naklua zone, which has become increasingly burdened by local traffic. After completing underground drainage construction, the city will begin roadworks in 2026, linking Soi Photisan 6 to Soi 8 and Soi 3, creating a continuous traffic route. Officials say this effort is part of a larger plan to improve mobility and return public infrastructure for communal use. New connector road planned to ease traffic congestion between Photisan and Naklua zones. City moves forward with infrastructure improvements to enhance traffic flow and public space access.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 8 Views

WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMPattaya traffic police enforce road discipline with daily crackdownsPattaya traffic police enforce parking regulations citywide, towing illegally parked vehicles — including luxury cars and taxis — in a citywide effort to improve traffic flow. PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya’s traffic police have intensified enforcement efforts along key city routes, particularly Beach Road, as part of a broader campaign to restore road discipline through daily fines, towing operations, and increased visibility. The initiative, launched in recent weeks, targets common violations such as illegal parking in red-and-white no-parking zones, obstruction of traffic lanes, and disregard for signage. Motorcycles and private vehicles parked improperly have been towed or clamped, with enforcement actions often carried out in full public view. Eyewitness accounts describe coordinated operations involving officers and flatbed trucks removing motorcycles parked along restricted areas. Drivers arriving at the scene are often met with fines or find their vehicles immobilized. Local authorities say the approach is designed to instill a renewed sense of accountability. For years, loosely enforced parking regulations have contributed to congestion on major thoroughfares, especially in tourist-heavy zones. The crackdown now applies uniformly, with no exemptions for luxury vehicles or taxis — groups previously seen as frequent offenders. Residents have voiced growing support for the stricter enforcement. Public frustration over vehicles blocking roads, particularly by taxis and high-end private cars, has been widely shared across social media, where images of towed vehicles and booted sedans receive broad approval. Officials hope these measures will lead to long-term improvements in traffic flow and public safety, particularly ahead of the upcoming high tourist season. Until then, authorities advise motorists to observe traffic signs and curb markings closely — or risk penalties.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 8 Views

WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMCrossing Pattaya streets remains risky as traffic safety concerns persistPedestrian crossings in Pattaya are frequently ignored by motorists, raising concerns among residents and visitors about road safety. PATTAYA, Thailand – Crossing the street in Pattaya continues to pose serious challenges for pedestrians, with residents and visitors citing hazardous conditions caused by fast-moving traffic, poor infrastructure, and limited enforcement of road rules. While pedestrian crossings exist in some areas, many are reportedly disregarded by drivers. Observers note that vehicles, including motorbikes and baht buses, frequently fail to yield to those on foot, even at marked crosswalks. Narrow streets without sidewalks, inadequate street lighting, and inconsistent traffic flow further complicate pedestrian safety. In areas such as Soi Diana, one-way street designations are often ignored, leading to unpredictable traffic patterns. Residents also report that traffic signals are routinely disobeyed, contributing to an environment perceived as dangerous for walking. Statistical data from government sources estimate that up to 60% of drivers in Thailand may lack valid licenses, raising additional concerns about road safety. These figures combined with anecdotal reports of lax enforcement and repeated but undocumented warnings issued to motorists, suggest structural issues within local traffic management systems. Recent incidents, including a tourist being struck by a motorbike near a blocked crosswalk, have prompted renewed calls for improvements. Suggested measures include better street lighting, clearly protected pedestrian zones, and stricter enforcement of existing traffic laws. Despite ongoing concerns, comprehensive reforms have yet to be implemented. Observers note that without stronger regulatory action, pedestrian safety in Pattaya is likely to remain a pressing issue. Inconsistent traffic enforcement contributes to risky behavior on Pattaya’s streets, according to long-term observers.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 8 Views

WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMCambodia skips regional talks as Thai PM opens ASEAN coast guard forum in PattayaPrime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra opens the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum 2025 in Pattaya and launches joint maritime drills, with Cambodia’s absence highlighting growing regional tensions. PATTAYA, Thailand — Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Wednesday officially opened the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum 2025 (ACF 2025) and a series of coordinated maritime safety exercises in Pattaya, where Cambodia’s absence stood out amid rising bilateral tensions. The forum, hosted at the Hilton Pattaya from June 24–27, aims to promote maritime safety, security, and prosperity in the region. The Thai Navy, under Admiral Jirapol Wongvith, welcomed delegations from almost all ASEAN member states, observer nations, and regional maritime partners. However, Cambodia did not send any representatives, despite being invited. In her keynote address, Prime Minister Paetongtarn welcomed guests to Pattaya and underscored the importance of maritime security in maintaining regional stability. “The seas are not only trade routes and sources of natural resources but are also vulnerable to evolving threats including transnational crime, human trafficking, illegal fishing, and drug smuggling. ASEAN must act together to protect our shared maritime domain,” she said. The forum featured live demonstrations of aerial search and rescue and maritime emergency medical response near Pattaya Beach, adjacent to the Hilton Hotel, overseen by Thailand’s Maritime Enforcement Command Center (Thai-MECC). Paetongtarn also received an operational briefing from the center, which coordinates maritime law enforcement efforts across agencies. Aerial search-and-rescue and maritime emergency drills unfolded near Pattaya Beach by the Hilton Hotel, as Thai-MECC showcased coordinated operations during the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum; Prime Minister Paetongtarn received a briefing on Thailand’s multi-agency maritime enforcement strategy. The Prime Minister commended the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for its continued support, allowing closer collaboration between ASEAN maritime security bodies. UNODC representatives also participated in the forum. The absence of Cambodia drew quiet attention during the event, as all other ASEAN members sent coast guard or naval representatives. No official explanation was offered by Phnom Penh, but the no-show comes as diplomatic friction continues between Thailand and Cambodia over a leaked phone call between PM Paetongtarn and former Cambodian leader Hun Sen. The ACF, launched in 2023 under Indonesia’s chairmanship, aims to become a recurring regional platform for maritime security cooperation. The Philippines hosted ACF 2024, and Thailand’s hosting of ACF 2025 comes at a time of increased urgency to strengthen coordinated maritime enforcement. Approximately 50 participants attended this year’s meeting, including ASEAN member representatives, observers, and UNODC delegates. The forum is expected to produce recommendations on interagency cooperation, joint training, and sharing of intelligence to combat maritime threats. Prime Minister Paetongtarn closed her remarks by encouraging all countries to build long-term partnerships for peace and safety at sea, emphasizing ASEAN solidarity in turbulent geopolitical times.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 8 Views

WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMCannabis industry in Pattaya and Chiang Mai faces uncertainty following policy shiftCannabis shops in Pattaya and Chiang Mai face closures and reduced footfall following a sudden policy shift limiting sales to medical use only. PATTAYA, Thailand – Cannabis businesses in Thailand are adjusting to significant changes after the Public Health Ministry announced new rules restricting cannabis use strictly to medical purposes, effectively ending recreational sales. In response, entrepreneurs in major tourism hubs like Pattaya and Chiang Mai have expressed concern over the potential economic impact. Many had invested heavily in infrastructure, staffing, and product development since cannabis was decriminalized in 2022. In Pattaya, some dispensaries have temporarily closed pending further clarification. Others remain operational, focusing on medical use. Pranchai Chaimontree, representing over 100 local cannabis businesses through the Pattaya-Chonburi Cannabis and Medical Economic Entrepreneurs Club, noted that members are seeking guidance and support to ensure compliance and continued viability. In Chiang Mai, dispensary operators also report uncertainty. An employee at Cloud Cannabis near Tha Phae Gate said the shop is reviewing its operations due to potential losses related to stocked inventory and planned expansion. Farmers and dispensary owners are calling for clear guidelines and support as the new rules raise concerns about market disruption. Meanwhile, Pajorn Sampao-ngern, owner of Marijuana MO, emphasized the importance of maintaining access for medical users and called for government support should stricter regulations be enforced. Chiang Mai alone hosts approximately 800 licensed cannabis outlets. Industry representatives warn that if cannabis is reclassified as a narcotic, accessibility for medical patients may decrease, and unregulated markets could expand. Beyond retail, cultivators are also affected. In Nakhon Ratchasima, Somkiat Nitiketkoson, a farm operator, said his business has paused production. He cited both policy ambiguity and challenges in meeting new agricultural standards, including the implementation of Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP). The revised cannabis policy is expected to reshape the sector significantly, prompting both public and private stakeholders to reevaluate their roles and compliance strategies amid Thailand’s evolving regulatory landscape. Licensed cannabis businesses emphasize legal compliance and taxation, and seek government recognition of their role in the regulated economy.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 8 Views

WWW.PATTAYAMAIL.COMPattaya Mail veteran owner honoured by British Chamber of Commerce ThailandPratheep (Peter) Singh Malhotra receives the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand’s 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony held at the Pullman Pattaya Hotel, attended by 150 Chamber members, guests, and local business leaders. PATTAYA, Thailand – Peter Malhotra has won the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand’s business recognition title in the Lifetime Achievement Award Category 2025. The event was held in the Pullman Pattaya Hotel and attended by 150 Chamber members, guests and local business people. The Chamber currently has a membership of around 500 companies which in turn employ more than 250,000 people. This year there were eleven categories of awards and the winners were announced from shortlisted individuals and organizations. They included Most Innovative Company, Community Impact, Environmental Sustainability, Tourism Excellence and Women in Business amongst others. The British Chamber was founded in 1946 and is the oldest in Thailand. Pratheep Singh Malhotra was born in Phitsanulok province where his father owned a successful business. During the Vietnam War era, his father set up tailor shops in Bangkok and Utapao where Peter started his career. The family moved to Pattaya in 1975 and the original shop was in (what became) Walking Street. In 1993 he opened Pattaya Mail, the first local print newspaper, to give Pattaya a much-needed “voice” in the local and international community. In 2002 Peter’s company launched the Pattaya Blatt newspaper in the German language and also the Chiang Mai Mail to serve the north of Thailand. At this point, the Pattaya Mail Media Group was formed as a wholly Thai-owned enterprise. Changing market patterns in the media industry caused print editions to cease in December 2023 to make way for digitalization. However, Pattaya Mai had first entered the internet as early as 1996. Famous as a newspaper proprietor, Peter is also well-known for his charity work over the years and voluminous committee activities in sports and community areas. Receiving the British Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award, he said, was one of the greatest honours of his life as he looked back on the history of Pattaya which he had first visited in 1967. Pattaya Mail has won many awards over the decades, including “Best in the East” from the Eastern Mass Media Association for 18 consecutive years. Participants at the dinner were welcomed by Greg Watkins MBE, executive director of the British Chamber since 1996 and keen networker. The keynote speech was given by Dr Chula Sukmanop, secretary general of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office, who updated on recent developments such as the projected hi-speed train to link Utapao with Bangkok airports and the expansion of Laem Chabang’s deepwater port. Freeflow imported wine at the event was provided by McQuillan Enterprises.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 8 Views

THETHAIGER.COMBolt from the blue: Knifeman clash sparks soi showdown in PattayaBolt from the blue: Knifeman clash sparks soi showdown in PattayaLegacyA row over a blocked driveway nearly turned bloody in central Pattaya after a Bolt motorbike taxi driver allegedly pulled a knife during a furious bust-up with a resident. The drama unfolded around 5.42pm on June 22 in Soi Taengmo, just off the bustling Buakhao strip, when 44 year old Thanisorn Polsongkram, known to locals as James, tried to move a motorbike that was blocking his car. That’s when a Bolt app rider reportedly came flying into the narrow alley with a woman on the back and almost ploughed into him. “I shouted at him,” said Thanisorn. “But instead of apologising, he swore at me and looked like he was going to pull a knife.” The rider sped off but the confrontation wasn’t over. Ten minutes later, the same man returned, this time with a different male passenger. Thanisorn said the driver dismounted, again wielding a blade and seemingly ready for round two. Fearing for his life, the homeowner grabbed a gardening knife to defend himself. “My wife stepped in and tried to calm things down,” he said. “Thankfully, the passenger persuaded the driver to leave.” Picture courtesy of Pattaya News Footage from the scene, posted by Facebook user Nikorn Pakmongkol, shows part of the tense stand-off and has since gone viral, sparking public fears over rogue app drivers and Pattaya’s fraying tempers. Thanisorn has filed a formal complaint with Pattaya City Police, who are now reviewing CCTV to identify the suspect, Pattaya News reported. It’s the second ride-hailing incident in a week to cause alarm in the seaside city. On June 19, a Bolt passenger was assaulted at the intersection of Pattaya South Road and Thanon Sai Sam, near Soi South 18. Video footage of that clash was widely shared, fuelling public outrage and demands for tougher regulation. As tensions mount, Pattaya locals are urging officials to clamp down on aggressive riders before someone gets seriously hurt.
