PATTAYA, Thailand – Long-term visitors and expats in Pattaya are increasingly vocal about persistent issues that local authorities and the Thai government continue to overlook. Many say these problems have become major reasons why they—and many others—are considering or have already chosen to leave, with cheaper and more appealing alternatives in Southeast Asia like the Philippines and Vietnam drawing their attention. From everyday scams to unfair double pricing, the frustrations run deep. “Definitely wouldn’t go to Thailand again,” one expat said bluntly. “There are so many better and cheaper places to go. Better beaches, hotels, restaurants, bars, nightlife. True, there are scams everywhere, but here it’s constant and draining.” Others highlight a frustrating sense of inequality and targeting. Despite living in Thailand for years, paying taxes, and transferring income into the country, some expats say they receive no benefits. At the same time, they face inflated prices at parks, shows, and tourist attractions. One expat shared, “I’ve stayed here and paid tax for 10 years, but I still pay 10 times the price for parks and shows. Pattaya Mayor inspects wastewater treatment and waste incinerator progress on Koh Larn to support eco-friendly tourism. PATTAYA, Thailand – Mayor Poramet Ngampichet visited Koh Larn to oversee the operations of the wastewater treatment plant and the progress of the waste incinerator project. Relevant officials joined to provide information. Mayor Poramet stated that the visit focused on monitoring the wastewater treatment plant and the waste incinerator progress on Koh Larn. Currently, the wastewater treatment plant can treat approximately 1,600 cubic meters per day. Plans are in place to expand this capacity to 1,800 cubic meters, which will cover all wastewater around Tha Nha Ban Pier. The next phase involves connecting the wastewater system to various business operators on Koh Larn, ensuring their wastewater is properly treated. The treated water will then be reused beneficially within the waste incinerator system or safely discharged into the sea without harming the environment. Regarding the waste incinerator project, which has been underway for some time, system testing for waste sorting and the incinerator is expected by the end of June. The facility is projected to become fully operational by mid-August. It will manage both the approximately 100,000 tons of existing buried waste and the daily generated waste on the island. The current system includes two incinerators, each capable of burning 25 tons of waste daily, totaling 50 tons. However, actual operations will depend on daily waste production, which varies seasonally but typically ranges between 10-15 tons. The remaining waste will be the old buried waste to be disposed of. After treatment, the waste will be classified into two types: unusable waste, which will continue to be buried, and usable materials, which will become Pattaya City’s assets. The city will consider options such as turning these into bricks or other CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) projects to benefit the community in the future. Wastewater treatment plant on Koh Larn set to expand capacity from 1,600 to 1,800 cubic meters daily. Waste incinerator project aims to manage both old buried waste and daily garbage, with full operation expected by mid-August.   Treated waste materials may be repurposed into community-benefiting products as part of Pattaya’s sustainable development plan.

PATTAYA, Thailand — After years of noise, danger, and frustration caused by illegal street racing, residents in Pattaya and Jomtien may finally have reason to hope for some peace and quiet. The Najomtien Police Station is showing zero tolerance and determined action in its ongoing battle against motorcycle racing gangs that have long disrupted daily life and public safety. On the night of June 15, police successfully arrested one street racer and confiscated his motorcycle at a public racing event on Sukhumvit Road near Ban Amphoe. Investigation through mobile phone chat logs and CCTV footage quickly revealed the identities of several other participants. Police have now issued summons for all suspects to come forward and face charges. Those who ignore the call face immediate arrest warrants. The crackdown doesn’t stop at just the racers. Authorities are also targeting motorcycle modification shops, race organizers, and social media groups that coordinate these illegal events. “Racing on public roads means taking responsibility,” a police spokesperson said. “Street racing risks jail time — this is not just a warning, it’s a real consequence.” For years, residents of Pattaya and Jomtien have endured loud, reckless motorcycle races that invade neighborhoods late into the night, disrupting sleep and endangering lives. Complaints about noise pollution, unsafe driving, and accidents have been frequent, but previous enforcement efforts were often criticized as insufficient. Ren presented this slide of himself and Enza Burgio performing their championship-winning routine, “Jealousy,” to the tune of “Roxanne” from Moulin Rouge. PATTAYA, Thailand – What brings you JOY? This was the question that Dr Ren Lexander, PhD, asked the audience at the Pattaya City Expats Club on 11th June. They were the questions that he asked himself in 1994 at the age of 36. He asked what brings me JOY and how can I have more JOY in my life? His answer was… DANCE. He realized he had always gotten joy from mucking around on the dance floor with a woman doing whatever he could make up. So he went on a search for partner dancing. This search took him to Latin classes in Latin restaurants. This was before Latin got huge in the west in 1999 through the influence of Shakira, Ricky Martin and others. So the classes were small… but it was a start. A flyer in his letter box led him to a dance studio and studying both Ballroom and Latin dances. At a friend’s party, he was on the dance floor with a just-met woman doing some dance moves. She said: “You should do Ceroc”. “What’s Ceroc?” “It’s like what you’re doing now.” So Ren tried out a Ceroc class. This was to become the defining moment in his journey of joy through dance. At first he was perplexed by this very free-form dance: “Where’s the footwork?” But then he had an epiphany: the lack of footwork meant that he was freed up to spontaneously interpret the music. Ren introduces dance teacher, Viky Melsky, who teaches Tango and Bachata and other dances in Pattaya (follow her on Facebook to learn more- https://www.facebook.com/vikavinni/)” For Ren, it led to endless hours of joy. Two people on the dance floor… great music… countless hours of spontaneous joy for both people. Unexpectedly, it also led to him choreographing and winning national and international Ceroc dance championships. These routines often pushed the boundaries of what was “Ceroc”. The PCEC audience was treated to videos of three of his championship-winning routines: Sacred and Profane (music from Led Zeppelin featuring Arabic street music) Smooth (which won the 2001 Australasian Championship) Jealousy (to a song from Moulin Rouge) Ren also mentioned that he had choreographed a number of group routines, which he said might be the subject of a future talk one day. At the end of the talk, Ren called up some volunteers from the audience. This included Mick Desmond, a friend he had made through Ceroc in Australia. To the tune of Doris Day singing “Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps”, both men danced with women they had never danced with before. All four were able to dance and experience joy. For members of the audience who want to experience the Joy of Dance, Ren pointed them in the direction of Tango and Bachata.
