Beware of fake charity collectors on Pattaya Beach — Donate only through official channels
Don’t fall for it! Scam alert – Fake charity collector arrested on Pattaya Beach. PATTAYA, Thailand – A man pretending to be an officer from the so-called “Moral Protection Foundation” was caught soliciting donations along Pattaya Beach. The Director of the Pattaya City Administrative Division, together with municipal officers, responded quickly to public complaints and launched an inspection at the scene. The suspect was found collecting money under false pretenses and was immediately reported to Pattaya City Police, who took him into custody for legal proceedings. Locals have shared their concerns, warning others about similar scams: “It’s always safer to donate directly at the foundation office — never give to random people on the street.” “I see this all the time. Some even wear uniforms pretending to be from government departments, collecting for police or border patrol support.” “No real charity sends people to walk around asking for money. They have proper offices and donation channels.” “These are thieves dressed as saints. Authorities should crack down hard to make an example.” Vendors along the beach reported that these individuals often dress neatly, present envelopes, and politely ask for donations — but never provide credible proof of affiliation with any real foundation. Public Warning: Do not give money to street solicitors claiming to represent charities. Donate only through verified channels or directly at foundation offices. If you encounter suspicious activity, report it immediately to municipal officers or local police. Please share to protect others from being scammed. Scam alert: Man arrested for impersonating charity staff and soliciting money. Don’t be fooled. Protect yourself and others — report suspicious fundraisers and share this warning widely.

Pattaya can’t lose hope – Samui’s resilience offers a tourism model amid national slump
While Pattaya struggles, the Gulf islands report over 50% hotel occupancy — fueled by Indian and Malaysian tourists during low season. PATTAYA, Thailand – As Pattaya’s restaurant and tourism industries grapple with economic pressure, falling foot traffic, and unclear government policy, all hope is not lost. Just across the Gulf of Thailand, the islands of Samui, Phangan, and Tao are proving that even during low season, a resilient and adaptive strategy can keep tourism afloat. According to Ms. Nichtharas Wanichcharoen, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Samui Office, tourism across the three Gulf islands has remained “surprisingly bright” despite entering the traditionally slow low-season months. While European arrivals have declined as expected, the islands have seen a notable rise in Indian and Malaysian visitors, pushing hotel occupancy rates above 50–55% on average. This stands in stark contrast to Pattaya, where restaurants and hotels are struggling with empty tables, rising costs, and a 14% nationwide drop in tourist arrivals — compounded by a sharp 35% plunge in Chinese visitors. Business owners say the city is becoming harder to sustain and increasingly less attractive to repeat tourists. Yet Samui’s performance offers a clear message: success is still possible with smart planning and market adaptation. Ms. Nichtharas highlighted how Samui has proactively diversified its visitor base and invested in ongoing activities to drive the local economy. Events like Samui Pride (June 26) and culinary festivals such as “Samui Story: Green Chef” continue to attract travelers. Meanwhile, Koh Tao is gearing up to host a sports-themed “Spotlight” event from June 27–29, helping maintain momentum even during the monsoon season. Ms. Nichtharas says strategic events and market diversity show Samui is weathering the storm — proving Thailand’s tourism slump isn’t universal. Another reason for Samui’s resilience lies in outreach and collaboration. On June 24, the TAT Samui Office will lead a delegation of 26 tourism operators to Pattaya for a business matching event — part of an effort to build interregional tourism connections and spark cooperative growth. While the economic outlook remains uncertain in many parts of Thailand, Samui’s steady numbers and flexible strategies are a reminder: Pattaya cannot afford to give up. With creative planning, broader market targeting, and cross-regional collaboration, recovery is still within reach. As Ms. Nichtharas put it, relying on any one market — such as Chinese or European tourists — is no longer a viable strategy. Instead, embracing diversity in both customers and experiences will be key to long-term survival. She encouraged tourism operators to recognize that promoting Samui during this season requires proper risk management — not dependency. Businesses must prepare to welcome tourists from a wide range of nationalities, including domestic Thai travelers. Even during rainy spells, Samui’s attractions remain open. With its blend of land and sea experiences, sunny intervals still offer beautiful beaches and a vibrant atmosphere. Tourism doesn’t have to stop just because the high season does. In Pattaya, the road to recovery may be longer. But if the Gulf islands prove anything, it’s that even in the rain, tourism can still bloom — if the ground is prepared. On June 24, Ms. Nichtharas will lead TAT Samui’s delegation of 26 operators to Pattaya for tourism matchmaking — aiming to boost regional cooperation and renew optimism.

Pattaya Police nab notorious Chinese call center fraudster with nearly 1 million baht in cash
Police arrest Chinese national Zhu Jiagen near Wat Banglamung, seizing 951,000 baht in cash linked to an alleged transnational call center scam. PATTAYA, Thailand – Officers from Pattaya City Police Station and the Chonburi Transnational Crime Suppression Unit arrested a Chinese national believed to be part of a large-scale call center scam network. The suspect, identified as Zhu Jiagen, 29, was taken into custody outside a 7-Eleven near Wat Banglamung, north of Pattaya. The arrest followed a warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court on multiple serious charges, including participating in a secret criminal association, defrauding the public, entering false or misleading information into a computer system, conspiring to commit money laundering, and committing money laundering. When police approached Zhu as he withdrew money from an ATM, they found him in possession of Thai currency totaling 951,000 baht, consisting of 951 one-thousand-baht banknotes. Authorities also confiscated several bank deposit slips and a white Nissan Teana sedan bearing Bangkok license plates. Investigators had been tracking Zhu for some time after determining that he had sought refuge near Wat Banglamung. Surveillance teams monitored his movements closely before moving in once they confirmed his identity and activity. His arrest marks another step in Thailand’s efforts to crack down on transnational crime syndicates that use call center operations to scam Thai citizens out of large sums of money. Police say Zhu’s case will proceed according to Thai law, and investigations into the wider network are ongoing. His capture is being hailed as a successful example of inter-agency cooperation in tackling cross-border cybercrime and financial fraud.

City’s Attention to Detail – Pattaya officials retrieve lost keys from drain near Tree Town on Soi Buakhao
City workers on Soi Buakhao retrieve a lost set of keys from a storm drain — proving no request is too small for Pattaya’s public service teams. PATTAYA, Thailand – A small but meaningful act of service by local authorities recently won praise from the public, after officials helped a resident recover a set of keys that had accidentally fallen into a storm drain on Soi Buakhao. The incident occurred approximately 100 meters past Tree Town Market, heading toward South Pattaya. The resident contacted local authorities for assistance, prompting a swift response from the Pattaya City Public Works Department. Sanitation engineers were dispatched to the scene and managed to retrieve the keys successfully, showcasing the city’s attention to detail and willingness to help even in seemingly minor situations. Social media users applauded the quick response. One commenter wrote, “They pay attention to every detail. Thank you to all the officials involved.” Others noted that while the task seemed simple, the willingness of the officials to help reflects well on the city’s service standards. Some users also shared do-it-yourself tips, suggesting that in similar situations, a magnet attached to a stick can be an effective retrieval tool. Still, the appreciation remained high for the professionalism and readiness shown by Pattaya’s public service team. The Public Works Department confirmed the operation was handled promptly and efficiently, reminding residents that support is always available for those in need. Residents praised the quick response and attention to detail shown by the sanitation crew who came to the aid of a local in need. Even a simple task like key retrieval earns appreciation when done with care — one user called the act “a small thing that made a big difference.”
