THETHAIGER.COMBurmese roti vendor arrested for series of sexual assaults in PattayaBurmese roti vendor arrested for series of sexual assaults in PattayaLegacyA Burmese roti vendor attempted to bribe police with 15,000 baht after he was arrested for a series of sexual assault cases in Pattaya yesterday, May 22. Two teenage women filed a complaint at Mueang Pattaya Police Station on Wednesday, May 21, stating that the suspect approached them while they were on Pattaya Beach. He tricked them into getting on his motorcycle and took them to a dark area to sexually assault them. The first victim revealed that the man invited her to his accommodation but instead took her to an abandoned bathroom and raped her. The rapist stole her belongings and abandoned her at the scene. Another victim stated that she was taken to a dark alley but managed to escape rape with the help of a motorist who travelled past the scene. The victims suspected the man to be a foreign national. One of the victims told police that the man could communicate in Thai, but his accent was unclear. The two victims filed a complaint at a similar time, leading police to anticipate that the suspect was the same person. Photo via Facebook/ จับตาพัทยา Police reviewed security cameras and found the suspect riding a red and black motorcycle from Pattaya to the Si Racha district of Chon Buri. Officers continued their investigation until tracking down the suspect, 27 year old Burmese national Thant Ngwe, at his accommodation. Thant Ngwe lived in a rented room in the Si Racha area with his pregnant wife and made a living as a roti vendor. Police searched his room and found a stolen mobile phone and the belongings of the victims in his possession. Photo via Facebook/ เอ.อี.ซี นิวส์ พัทยา Thant Ngwe confessed that he approached three women, not two. He insisted that all of the women agreed to have sex with him. Thant Ngwe said his wife is pregnant, so he visited Pattaya Beach to search for prostitutes, and all of the victims agreed to offer sex services to him. Channel 7 reported that Thant Ngwe was visibly stressed after being arrested. He offered police officers 15,000 baht and begged police to drop his legal punishment, but officers denied the bribe. Photo via Facebook/ เอ.อี.ซี นิวส์ พัทยา Police reported that they issued two charges against Thant Ngwe, including: Section 278 of the Criminal Law: sexually assaulting a victim aged above 15 by threatening or using violence. The penalty is imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine of up to 200,000 baht, or both. Section 336 of the Criminal Law: stealing another person’s valuables by snatching. The offence carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to 100,000 baht. THETHAIGER.COMChon Buri abbot saves starving gran and teen with kind actChon Buri abbot saves starving gran and teen with kind actLegacyA touching story of survival has emerged from Chon Buri, where a 70 year old grandmother and her teenage granddaughter were forced to live off boiled rice water after falling into dire poverty. Now, thanks to a compassionate monk and viral video, they’ve finally received a lifeline. At 2.30pm yesterday, May 22, Phra Khru Thawornsatthakhun, abbot of Wat Woraprot Sangkhawat, together with volunteers from the Vihok Weha group, visited Jidapa Thiraphanan and her 15 year old granddaughter Pavinee, also known as Ploy. The pair, living in a modest rented room in Mueang district, were overwhelmed with gratitude as they received rice, dry food, daily essentials, and cash for Ploy’s education. The duo’s struggle began when Ploy’s 49 year old father Phisit was diagnosed with severe tuberculosis and hospitalised. Previously a songthaew driver, his illness left him unable to work. Jidapa, who used to sell noodles to support the family, had to sell her equipment to cover medical bills and her granddaughter’s schooling. “I appeal to kind-hearted individuals for help with my granddaughter’s education and tools to restart my noodle business,” said Jidapa. “We’ve been surviving on boiled rice water. A neighbour filmed us and asked for help, which brought today’s support.” Ploy, a Year 9 student at Bansuan Udom School, has been absent for two days due to her father’s condition. With no income and unable to work at her age, she and her grandmother were left with nothing. Despite the hardship, Ploy maintains an impressive 3.5 GPA and dreams of continuing her education to support her family in the future. Their situation came to light after a local ice cream vendor saw them eating plain rice and shared a video online. The footage caught the attention of Phra Khru Thawornsatthakhun, who swiftly organised relief and urged the public to lend a hand, reported KhaoSod. Those wishing to help can make donations directly to Jidapa Thiraphanan’s Krung Thai Bank account, number 202-0481-367, Bang Pakong branch. THETHAIGER.COMAussie drunk smashes rescue booth in Pattaya, caught on CCTVAussie drunk smashes rescue booth in Pattaya, caught on CCTVLegacyA drunken Australian man caused a stir in Pattaya after smashing a rescue booth, mistaking radio chatter for people talking. Nathan James Webber, 51, was arrested yesterday, May 22, for damaging a Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation rescue booth near Soi Najomtien 8. The bizarre incident unfolded in the early hours of May 20 when volunteer rescue workers reported the booth had been vandalised. According to Pattaya City Police, Webber’s motorcycle broke down nearby. Intoxicated and confused, he heard voices over the booth’s two-way radio and believed someone was inside. Desperate for assistance, Webber tried to open the booth door by force, smashing the glass. Realising the voices were coming from a radio and not a person, he fled the scene, leaving behind his motorcycle and mobile phone. Police reviewed CCTV footage to track him down. Officers from the Pattaya Tourist Police, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Torlap Tinamat, Pol. Lt. Col. Supparat Meepreecha, and Police Major Apichart Jarurak, arrested Webber at his home on Soi Najomtien 8 at 4.06pm yesterday. Webber confessed to the damage, blaming his heavy intoxication for the misunderstanding. He claimed he only tried to get help and did not intend to cause damage, but said communication problems with rescue workers prevented a quick resolution at the time. Further investigation revealed Webber had overstayed his Thai visa by 343 days, making him an illegal resident. He was handed over to Pattaya City Police to face charges for property damage and immigration violations, reported The Pattaya News. Webber is expected to face legal proceedings and eventual deportation for his visa overstay. In similar news, a foreign man was arrested by Pattaya police on March 29 for vandalising public property with graffiti. Locals quickly reported the incident, leading to his detention. Residents have called for stricter penalties for foreign tourists who break Thai laws, including fines, graffiti removal, deportation, and permanent bans. THETHAIGER.COMBetter Pattaya plan unites business leaders for greener futureBetter Pattaya plan unites business leaders for greener futureLegacyPattaya’s mayor is doubling down on his Better Pattaya campaign, calling on businesses and residents alike to join forces in turning the beachside city into a cleaner, greener, and more resilient urban hub. Mayor Poramet Ngampichet took centre stage at the annual meeting of the Pattaya-Chon Buri Business and Tourism Association (PCBTA), held at the Sabai Sabana Hotel, where he joined city officials, private sector representatives, and stakeholders to review progress and map out strategies to strengthen the local economy and tourism sector. As the chief advisor to the PCBTA, Poramet reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the business community to tackle key challenges and drive sustainable development. The event, chaired by the PCBTA President, featured updates on ongoing development projects, while also offering an open floor for members to voice concerns and pitch recommendations. It was clear that collaboration remains the backbone of Pattaya’s transformation agenda. Poramet used the platform to spotlight one of the city’s pressing priorities: environmental responsibility. He urged all stakeholders, particularly the business sector, to take active roles in promoting proper waste separation as a fundamental step toward a sustainable future. “Waste management isn’t just a government responsibility. Everyone has a part to play. Clean streets and a clean city boost tourism, enhance public services, and improve quality of life.” This aligns with the city’s wider Better Pattaya initiative, which aims to position Pattaya as not just a party capital but a model coastal city known for smart urban development, environmental stewardship, and inclusive economic growth, reported Pattaya Mail. The mayor stressed that business associations like the PCBTA play a vital role in connecting local entrepreneurs with city officials, acting as a bridge that ensures grassroots concerns translate into real-world action. “Together, we can create a city that thrives—not just economically, but socially and environmentally.” With tourism still rebounding post-pandemic and infrastructure projects in motion, the message from City Hall is clear: Pattaya’s future depends on unity, innovation, and shared responsibility. THETHAIGER.COMVape and cig racket busted at Pattaya weed shopVape and cig racket busted at Pattaya weed shopLegacyA cannabis shop on Pattaya Beach Road has been exposed as a front for selling illegal vapes and foreign cigarettes, with cops seizing hundreds of illicit products in a dramatic police raid. Officers from Pattaya Police, in collaboration with the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), swooped on the Dr Weed cannabis store in the heart of the popular resort town, uncovering a stash of 110 disposable vape devices and 216 packs of imported tobacco, all hidden inside the shop. The haul is estimated to be worth 60,000 baht. According to police, the shop was using its legal weed business to mask a lucrative sideline in banned products, with a particular focus on tourists and teenagers. “This kind of illegal activity undermines public health and targets vulnerable groups,” said one investigating officer. Sales clerk Sukanya Hongsaphan, from Maha Sarakham, was arrested during the raid. The 32 year old woman told police she had only been working at the shop for one week, earning 14,000 baht a month, and claimed she was following orders from the shop’s owner, known only as “Get.” “The e-cigarettes were popular with teens, and the profit margin was huge—three to five times the cost,” Sukanya reportedly told officers. She admitted to selling the products to meet demand, despite knowing it was against the law. Investigators say the store had been operating for over a year, with the illegal vape sales allegedly going on behind the scenes for months. The shop targeted tourists and young locals seeking quick and easy access to otherwise banned items, reported Bangkok Post. Sukanya was charged with selling tobacco products without a licence and failing to display a valid permit. She has been handed over to Pattaya Police for further legal proceedings. Officers warn that more raids are on the horizon as law enforcement cracks down on shops using legal cannabis licences as a cover for prohibited sales. Police have urged the public to report any businesses suspected of selling illegal e-cigarettes or tobacco products. As for “Get,” the alleged mastermind behind the operation—police say they are tracking him down. More charges could be coming soon.
