ตรงถนนหน้าหาดจอมเทียนจะมีร้านอาหารตามสั่งในซอยอยู่ร้านนึง เป็นร้านประจำที่ผมไปกินบ่อย เช้านี้นั่งกินข้าวอยู่เห็นน้องผู้หญิงคนนึงสภาพผมกระเซิง ใส่ชุดนอนเก่า เดินเอียงไปเอียงมา เอาง่าย ๆ เหมือนคนเพิ่งตื่นนอนแล้วหิวข้าวเลยรีบลงมาหาของกิน ได้ยินป้าคนขายคุยกับน้องเป็นไงบ้าง ห้องใหม่โอเคไหม ได้แขกดีไหมช่วงนี้ ถึงได้รู้ว่าน้องเพิ่งมาอยู่พัทยาไม่นาน น้องบ่นว่าผู้หญิงเยอะกว่าที่คิด แล้วแต่ละคนก็สวย ๆ ทั้งนั้นเลย กว่าจะได้แขกยืนจนปวดขา เพื่อนสวย ๆ ของน้องบางคนได้งานวันละรอบ สามวันรอบ ดูทรงแล้วถ้าเดือนนี้ไม่พอจ่ายค่าห้อง ก็จะหาห้องที่ราคาถูกกว่านี้ แม่มีห้องแนะนำบ้างไหม? ( น้องเขาเรียกคนขายข้าวว่า แม่ ) ผมได้ยินป้าคนขายข้าวแนะนำให้ไปอยู่ซอยต้น ๆ แถวหัวหาดจอมเทียน แกว่าตรงนั้นราคาไม่แพงมาก ตึกเก่าหน่อย ติดทะเลด้วย สักพักนึงแกก็สะดุดเปลี่ยนใจขึ้นมา อย่า อย่า แถวนั้นไม่ค่อยดีหรอกอย่าไปเลย ยาเยอะ! สุดท้ายแล้ว ป้าก็ไม่ได้แนะนำห้องใหม่ให้น้อง น้องเองก็ยังคงเครียดเรื่องลูกค้าน้อย แต่ผมแอบรู้สึกดีใจที่อย่างน้อย ป้าก็ยังเบรคน้องไว้เรื่องที่พัก ด้วยเหตุผลว่าแถวนั้นขี้ยาเยอะ ผมเองเคยผ่านจุดนั้นมาก่อนเข้าใจในสิ่งที่ป้าพูด เรามาทำงานต่างถิ่น ที่พักที่ซุกหัวนอนเป็นเรื่องสำคัญมาก อย่าคิดแต่ว่าจะเอาถูกไว้ก่อน เพราะบางครั้งสภาพแวดล้อมในราคาถูกเกินไปมันก็น่ากลัวกว่าที่เราคิด ผมเคยเห็นคนเดินส่งยาขึ้นลงบนตึกทั้งคืน โดยที่ไม่มีใครทำอะไร เคยเห็นสาวน้อยโดนผู้ชาย 3 คนลากไปเอาในซอกบาร์เก่า ๆ เพื่อแลกกับไอซ์ดูด คนแถวนั้นก็เดินผ่านไปมามองเป็นเรื่องปกติ เสียงครวญครางไม่ได้ทำให้คนแถวนั้นสำนึกถึงความเป็นมนุษย์ หรือแม้แต่ช่วยเหลือกัน ผมผ่านแบบนั้นมาแล้วจริง ๆ ก็เลยรู้สึกดีใจที่ป้าแนะนำน้องแบบนั้น อยู่ห้องพักในสภาพแวดล้อมที่ดีดีกว่า แพงหน่อยช่างมัน พี่เชื่อว่าสักวันหนึ่งน้องจะมีรายได้พอที่จะจ่ายค่าห้อง และกินใช้ได้อย่างสบาย อดทนไว้ อย่าเสี่ยงด้วยการพาตัวเองไปอยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่แย่เลย มันไม่คุ้มหรอก......
