While northern and central Thailand brace for summer storms, Pattaya enjoys hot, humid weather with clear skies and a steady sea breeze—ideal for beachgoers but a reminder to stay weather-aware.
PATTAYA, Thailand – While much of northern and central Thailand braces for summer storms and severe weather, Pattaya continues to experience hot and humid conditions with scattered cloud cover and occasional sea breezes. Temperatures in the coastal city remain steady around 33–35°C during the day, with a slight chance of isolated rain showers in the late afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Thai Meteorological Department has issued Public Weather Warning No. 15 regarding ongoing summer storms in upper Thailand, including the North, Northeast, and Central regions, with effects expected through the weekend. The warning highlights thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy rain, along with lightning strikes in some areas.
This unstable weather is caused by a high-pressure system extending over Vietnam and the South China Sea, clashing with warm air and wind patterns over upper Thailand. A westerly wind wave moving in from Myanmar is also contributing to the storm risk in the North and Northeast.
Authorities urge residents in the affected regions to stay indoors during storms, avoid sheltering under large trees or unstable structures, and take precautions to protect crops and livestock. Farmers are advised to reinforce fruit-bearing trees and prepare for potential agricultural damage.
Provinces likely to be affected include:
Northern Region: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, and more.
Northeastern Region: Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Phanom, Roi Et, and others.
Central Region: Nakhon Sawan, Lopburi, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, and parts of Bangkok Metropolitan Area.
Despite the national alert, Pattaya and much of the Eastern Seaboard remain unaffected, making it a relatively stable destination for tourists during this early May period. However, travelers are encouraged to monitor local forecasts, especially if planning trips to northern or inland provinces.
